Catch 22 – Working Holiday visa

So I have been living for two months in Japan and I am trying to get an address on the back of my residence card.

However, I need a contract to get that address on the back of the card. To get I need to stay in the same place for two months which I did. I told the landlord that I am going be staying as long as a could but pay monthly which he said is fine.

During two month period he gave me the contract and I took it to the local ward office. However, they didn’t accept it since it said I would be there for short stay. Apparently I can’t get long contract until the four month period.

I cried in my room after that. I am worried about my money so not going explore other places in Japan as I had planned. Also, it’s soon my birthday and had plans but I have decided to not waste my money so I have hopefully enough money for rent for another two months.

  1. Huh? You could still register it even if you are there less than 2 months.
Are you maybe misunderstanding something? You don’t even need a contract to show them, just fill out a form. At least that is how i have always done it.

How does that relate to you being out of money after 2 months??

Edit: you also need to register your address within 2 weeks, not wait 2 months…

  2. Go to the ward office without the contract, tell them your address, maybe your room number and that should be it. There is no need in telling them how you long you intend to stay there for.
I stayed in a place for a week and had used that for my residence registration.

  3. As others have said, just go and tell them. When I did my WHV I was told it’s a requirement to register an address if you’re staying in 1 place longer than 2 weeks
