Anyone have experience with guarantor services (連帯保証人代行サービス)

I’m looking to move to Fukuoka, and a lot of the real estate agencies have told me that I need to use both a guarantor service (defined as 保証会社) and an actual guarantor (連帯保証人).

Given that I don’t really know a lot of people who would be willing and able to take on that role, I’ve been searching on the subreddit and saw some people talking about guarantor services, but has anyone actually used one, or have recommendations for good and reliable services?

  1. I’m surprised you never used those services before. From my experience, every apartment I moved into required me to use those guarantor company. You just have to pay them 20k to sign up the contract, then 10k every year. Unless it changed.

  2. It is rare to require BOTH a guarantor company and a guarantor. Being a guarantor is a heavy responsibility, as a guarantor co-signs the lease and is responsible for paying the rent if you cannot. Usually it is a parent who becomes the guarantor of their child when they go off to school.

When a company requires both of these I interpret it as a subtle way of telling you to go away.
