Pretty short not tournament short but he really didn’t do much besides the ic title.
He didn’t stay that long, I remember watching the tournament for the IC belt, and him having rivalries against Toru Yano and Masato Tanaka for that belt. I think he was booked pretty strong on his first year. He was alright and could have a good match but not with anyone. Also I remember his Playmaker move looked like shit, thank god he also used a submission. But yeah, from what I remember (not much) I’d say he was alright, he did his best to adapt to the NJPW style but he clearly was not one of the best workers at that time.
So weird to see the IC belt without the white strap.
I think it’s very nice that Johnny Ace got him a run, think it’s nice MVP got to do the kind of wrestling he loves, it’s a fun little piece of trivia that nobody really thinks of.
Run itself was eh.
Geez guys. Don’t try to sound too supportive or positive. He had a positive run I’d say. Teamed with Shelton Benjamin too which nobody is mentioning. To be the inaugural IC champion is a pretty huge thing so that within itself makes the run noteworthy. His actual adaptation to the style of Strongstyle was as natural as Eddie Kingston currently. They both reminded me of each other in terms of who they are and they’re love/appreciation for puro. Not in styles or promo work. But the types of wrestlers they are. You can also tell how much MVP’s time under Chris Benoit’s mentorship helped him transition his WWE style.
