  1. What are some of the most cost-effective ways of traveling across Japan as a resident? I’m going from Nagoya to Tokyo, Tokyo to Kyoto and Nara, from there to Osaka, Kobe, Hiroshima, and back to Nagoya. Any help appreciated. I’m a resident, so I can’t get the JR pass right?

  2. yesterday i closed everything in my apartment in order to use the aircon, and in the evening saw 2 caterpillar and a small spider on the wall, except from the aircon i dont know how they got inside :/

Anything i can do about it ? are these drains they sell at daiso etc tight enough to prevent even small insects, or will i need something else ?

  3. Trying to diagnose why I’m getting grey streaks in my laundry for the past month has been real frustrating. I’ve tried adding less detergent, adding extra water, making sure the lint net is clean, but alas esp on my dark clothes grey and white streaks everywhere.

I got it from a friend a year ago and they cleaned the drum as well, really don’t want to be looking for another machine already.

  4. How to fix smelly drains? I have a drain in my apartment’s washing machine spot (which I’m actually not using, I don’t have a washing machine) and in the summer the stench gets pretty strong.

  5. I have a mini ant infection in my room, I have tried cleaning everything and I don’t have a clue where they are coming from, is there any product or home remedy I can use to get rid of them?

  6. Anyone here been approved for a mortgage loan without PR at a megabank or netbank that generally states “PR required for foreign resident applications” ?

I’ve heard about it happening before, but curious about which banks, the process, etc.

  7. Has anyone here successfully applied for PR without a typical seishain job? My income is all from stocks. Although my income changes every month and year, it has never been negative for any month in these past 5 years and I have been paying all my taxes / insurance / nenkin and supporting my family from this income. I am thinking of applying for PR to be able to get a mortgage.

  8. Anyone seen 君たちはどう生きる yet? Is the dialogue easy to understand?

  9. I went to post something recently, and I didn’t realise I’d put it in something that wasn’t an official postbox (despite it saying ‘post’ and being in a place a typical postbox would be). It turns out that it was one for a neighbourhood association, and it’s locked so I’m unable to check if the envelope has been taken out or is still there.

What’re the chances that someone from the neighbourhood association may have taken it out and sent it for me (it’s a prepaid envelope, so no cost involved on their end)? I’m sure they’re pretty slim if we’re being honest.

I’m going to call the neighbourhood association tomorrow (now that I’ve realised) and ask, but I was just curious if anyone else had ever done the same thing and what their experience was?

  10. So the outside aircon unit seems to have some dust in the rear fins. Can I just spray it down from the rear with the aircon cleaner you use for the indoor aircon and then rinse it down with a hose?

I know there are cleaner you can pay for. Which I would like to do but apartment is in my partners name and they think its a waste of money. Right now trying to get a kinda half solution until we work that out.

  11. I’m graduation at the end of September (from a Japanese university) and have a job lined up from the 1st of November.

I know my visa officially runs out after the day of graduation, so I’ll have one month without a visa. Am I correct in my understanding that I’ll need to apply for the visa ‘Designated activities visas for waiting until joining the company’, and to do that go to the immigration office & pay 4000 yen (and probably waste 2 days)? Would I even receive this Visa before receiving my employment one?

I’ll go to the immigration office and ask anyways, but anyone know how anal they are with this? Seems like a lot of work considering my residence card is ‘valid’ until June 2024 but I guess there’s no choice.

  12. Got a scam SMS (in Japanese ofc) “ur bank account has temporarily closed please go to *shady ass link “. PSA spam report and block people

  13. How are the lines for rides at Fuji-Q? Is catching one of the same-day return buses feasible or does it make more sense to plan to stay the night there?
