Itinerary Check – Tokyo for 7 days in October 2023

Itinerary Check – Tokyo for 7 days in October 2023

* Early 30’s couple, husband and I enjoy anime, gaming, shopping, eating, nature, live music.
* We want to allow time to get side tracked in the different areas we will explore but not be too bored. In places like Akihabara and Harajuku I am guessing we would be happy wandering around for a few hours seeing what we can find beyond the main tourist attractions.
* Before Tokyo we will be in Fukuoka for non holiday reasons, so please disregard as part of our real holiday time.
* This is my first time to Japan, husband’s 3rd time.
* I am hesitant to add another destination in Japan that is not just a day trip, will I regret it? We will be in Japan 3 weeks total – last 7 days in Tokyo, I don’t want to be too tired with packed schedule.
* Staying near Shinjuku JR station.

Questions:

1. What is the best day trip from Tokyo to see Mt Fuji? Would you recommend Lake Kawaguchiko, Hakone or another option? We want the highest chances of seeing Mt Fuji in October and some other nature based activities in the area in case we do not get to see Mt Fuji.
2. What should we fill in our last two days with? (Some thoughts have been Harry Potter Tour, Team Labs, Ueno cultural attractions, another district?)
3. Have I struck a balance between full enough but allowing time for spontaneity in the days I have planned?
4. Have I organised the days in a way that makes sense for efficiency?

Please let me know if I have not put in enough information I will edit, sorry in advance if there are already posts about my questions that I have not found.

Thanks!! 🙂

Lake Kawaguchi is still the best option IMO. Or better yet, stay one night at a ryokan (traditional Japanese hotel) there.

TeamLab Planets is worth it, and maybe Nikko since late October would be the right season. Also, Odaiba sounds like it should be down your alley, maybe even check out Gundam Factory Yokohama.

Looks good for the most part… Skytree is closer to Sensoji, so might want to shuffle that around. But otherwise it’s just a matter of how packed you want your days.

  2. Just fyi, getting from Tsukiji to Shimokitazawa is a hike with multiple trains. It’s easier to get to from Harajuku. If you want to keep your schedule as-is and don’t mind a walk, you can go from Tsukiji through Ginza to Hibiya park to get the train that goes to Shimokitazawa. Also, I found that the vintage stores opened really late, like after noon and some after 2 pm, so if you do Tsukiji early you would have time for something else on the Chiyoda subway line in between.
