1. Is there any keyboard for Android that rivals Gboard for both English and Japanese input? Assuming not but anyway.

2. Is there a site anywhere that shows current and/or forecasted crowding for train lines in Tokyo? I know Google Maps sometimes does this but wondering if there’s others out there.

3. Do them cooling blankets really work? Christ the heat is lowkey unbearable and we’re not even in august yet.

4. I know everyone complains bout NHK and not paying for it sooooooo if I buy a cable for my tv and hook it to the tv port on my wall will I be able to actually get channels? I just have my video games and firestick on my tv. I don’t feel like wasting money buying a cable and then it doesn’t work haha

5. Does the “mushi yoke” thing that you hang outside actually work? Or are they just a scam?

   We plan to get a bunch and put them near where we do laundry.

6. Site where I can order postcard or message card size printing in small lots of say, 10? Using a digital design that I own. Like photo printing but a matte card instead.

11. Hi, I have an awful fever and unless I miraculously recover overnight I’m going to need a 診断書 as it’s exam week, as per university policy. I’ve tried googling and I can’t figure out the process of obtaining one. I also haven’t gone to a doctor in Japan so far, but have NHI.

    Questions:

    – Do I need to be going to a clinic, not a byouin? I saw something about needing appointments for byouin.

    – My teacher said it’s fine for me to wait until my fever has gone down enough that I can actually leave the house to go to the doctors, will there be any problem with me, for example. going this Friday and asking for a note covering from Tuesday this week?

    – Any recommendations for places I can go to get one in or around Shinjuku? I don’t mind going further if there’s a highly recommended one elsewhere. My Japanese is probably fine for saying stuff like I have a fever, have been shaking like crazy, all of my bones hurt like hell, but my Japanese level dips a lot whenever I’m sick.

    – Anything else I should know? I know to expect it to not be cheap and probably cash only.

12. I just found out I have a hornet colony outside of my window and they seem very angry every time I open the curtains. They’re not giant hornets as far as my limited knowledge of insects goes, but uh, im terrified anyway 🫠

    How do I deal with these things here?

    When I lived in Costa Rica we were told to call the firefighters to deal with bees and hornets. Should I call the firefighters here?

13. I’m having trouble finding any information about this but I’m currently living in Japan as a student and due to graduate towards the end of the year.

    I’d like to go back home and apply for a working holiday visa ASAP before I turn 30 so that I can have more time to explore with the freedom it brings of not needing to be tied down to a job.

    Is there any cool off period after having a student visa for UK citizens or should I be able to apply straight away?

    In that case how do you go about it? Is there another document that can be used instead?

16. If I usually use cheap foldable konbini umbrella with 90% UV protection claim, is it worth it to upgrade to a proper 100% UV protection umbrellas with the thick black lining?
