Nothing until the night time, because it’s just too hot, but if you feed me after midnight, all hell breaks loose.

Asa-dzuke pickles (cucumbers in mentsuyu and tougarashi). Fresh from the fridge I could eat them for days!

Cold udon without hesitation!
I’m not a fan any other time of the year but during the summer, I really enjoy coolish.
Besides the usual soba, hiyashi chuuka, onigiri, sandwiches etc.
Tzatziki and/or hummus with sliced vegetables, crackers, chips etc.
Spiral macaroni salad that is 50% cucumbers and cherry tomatoes by volume. The secret is lemon vinegar.
Caprese salad. You know what’s also nice? Sliced silken tofu in place of mozzarella.
Tofu salad (tofu, tomatoes, cucumbers, green onion, blanched sprouts and spinach) with soy sauce and sesame oil.
Nachos.
Sliced oranges, grapefruit, melon etc.
Boiled eggs quartered and wrapped in prosciutto and green onion.
I prepare anything that needs blanched, boiled, roasted on Sunday night. Everything that can be sliced ahead of time sliced and in tupperware. Then on weekdays I just need to assemble and eat.
hiyayakko and bukkake udon ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Regular food chased with cheap, cold and delicious ice cream from the konbini. It never fails to hit the spot.
I was shocked when I read about Amy Tan’s family eating watermelon for supper and nothing else, but now it sounds pretty darn good!
Lettuce with a mayo dressing and a little bit (a lot?) of crumbled bacon.
Devilled eggs.
Hiyashi somen. Mmmmm.
Fruit salad. Yummy, yummy.
Indian food. Thai food. The hotter (spicier) the better.
A good cold beer (bottled, no can), with some shrimp salad and for dessert, an ice cream of any sort.
In summer my go to meal is soba.
Watermelon
Neba neba don!
Or, although a hot dish, Okinawa soba with a generous splash of koregusu. It will make you sweat in a good way.
And a very nostalgic one for me, there was a small shop in the old Tsukiji market that would sell “natsu oden”. Basically, that was oden, served ice cold in jellied broth.

If we’re talking about meals, Korean reimen. It’s literally served with ice slushy soup in a cold stainless bowl and I have yet to find anything better for me.
Cold miso soup was surprisingly delicious and is now one of my favs. Especially with super crisp cucumber slices
