Questions :

* Are we trying to do too much during this time ? I tried to keep as little things during the day as possible. I think Nov 20th onwards looks a little hectic, thoughts ?
* We do want to have 1 Ryokan stay during the trip and Hakone seems the most logical choice but definitely \~500$ per night. Any other place we can have the same experience during this trip
* I am battling between Kanzawa/Takayama area vs Shimanami Kaido but I just feel Japanese alps require a whole separate trip and I would be rushing if I try to do Takayama area instead ?
* Any reasonable Kaiseki dinner recommendations in Kyoto ?

Thanks.

Looks generally okay IMO, nothing seems particularly out of place. I’d add Himeji castle in there though, probably for the 13th.

I don’t think you’re going to find a proper Ryokan experience for much less than that. If I were to pick, I’d probably do the ryokan at Kawaguchiko instead.

Assuming giving up Shimanami Kaido means forgoing Hiroshima, Matsuyama and Okayama as well, 5~6 days is more than enough for the Japanese Alps. But if you still want to keep Hiroshima, it’s indeed too tight.

I’d say you need 2 days / 1 night for Takayama+Shirakawago, an extra day/night for Kanazawa, another extra day/night for Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, and more for optional Matsumoto / Kamikochi / Nakasendo.

  3. If you will be shopping in Tokyo, switch your main shopping day to your last days in tokyo and do the kamakura day when you are in Tokyo at the beginning of your trip. That way you will have less stuff to haul around
