Christmas crackers

I am an ALT looking to get my hands on 100 Christmas crackers for my students, does anyone know if I can post christmas crackers to Japan? On the UK royal website it says that christmas crackers CAN be posted internationally so long as they’re in their original retail packaging, but I can’t verify this with any Japanese info and I don’t want to risk them being turned away at customs. Has anyone here successfully posted christmas crackers to Japan?

Alternatively, do you know of anywhere selling them instore in Japan, or an online shop with international shipping? (I live over an hour away from a city so the first option may not be accessible to me anyways)

For the record, I have contacted Japanese customs and they couldn’t give me a clear answer! And I’ve no idea how to contact JP post in English

Many thanks in advance!

  1. I’ve had Christmas crackers posted to me many times.

The first time they were checked by customs. The seller only wrote ‘crackers’ on the product description label.

From then on I’ve requested sellers label them fully and I’ve never had a problem.

  2. I’ve had my parents send over DIY cracker sets including the bang strips(?) and it didn’t have a problem clearing customs.

  3. I’ve ordered Christmas crackers off the internet and got them posted over here before. I’ve done it a few times and never had any mither.

  4. I’d ask your school first, a lot of them have strict rules on giving/receiving gifts, especially with food allergies.

  5. I did this a few years ago. They got as far as Narita customs before being destroyed and I got a stern letter about declaring hazardous contents, and I warning I could face a fine (which thankfully never materialised.)

  6. Why don’t you just print out a template and get the kids to make them?

Saves you having to buy them and the kids would have more fun.

  7. I make my own every year – the bang strip things I buy off aliexpress. Super cheap and quick shipping, no problem with customs. Gifts and jokes can then be custom made to suit the audience!

  8. My boss always gets them for Christmas events. Not sure if she gets them online or just has them sent by family though.

  9. I tried Marvel and Disney Christmas crackers with students here, they didn’t really enjoy what was from their POV destroying a nice gift for the cheapy things inside. Especially they don’t “get” the hat and bad joke. Just saying don’t bother breaking the bank on it!

  10. Buying 100 Christmas crackers for students is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. Even if you buy cheap ones it will cost a small fortune. And the cheaper ones look like garbage so I don’t think you’ll impress anyone.

If you must insist on buying crackers just buy a pack of 10 decent quality ones and demonstrate them with the JTE or one of the students.
