I’m currently a student studying in Hiroshima but I’m having trouble meeting new people. Clubs and societies seem to be discouraged for postgrad students and I don’t really have any luck on Tinder (bio tips maybe? lolol). I don’t really live near the main city so I wonder if there’s any advice for me to meet new people or even find a date. My Japanese is quite elementary since I only arrived a few months ago.

Go to bars in Hiroshima and hit up girls. Try yourself at street nampa if you feel like it.
Depends on what you’re looking for. If you just want casual dating, I’d say go to the gaijin bars. If you’re looking for something serious, then bumble.
Gaijin bars are your best bet for making friends too.
I’m surprised you don’t have any luck on tinder to be honest. If you’re into local women (I’m not) and at least in shape/white, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel. Be warned, a good portion of Japanese women on tinder seem to be married (though that may be your thing 😅)
How far out of Hiroshima City are you? This is one of the friendliest bars I’ve been to in all of Japan. Probably helps if you’re into sport, particularly baseball. The owner Sam is an absolute legend and will go out of his way to make sure you have a great time.
If you’re more into just meeting girls try Mac Bar or Molly Malone’s. The latter has Guinness on tap which I just adore. Good luck!
