I’m from a small town in Western Canada. I grew up with a couple pizzerias, eating there at least once a week in my teens.
I like my pizza with heavy ass dough, cheesy as a rat’s ass, and dripping with grease. Obviously, the standard Japanese pizza is bad, but when I go to a big city and look for well reviewed pizza places, I’m disappointed too. Domino’s is probably the closest thing I’ve found to it, but I don’t like it that much and it doesn’t sit well with my stomach.
I’m about to head into my summer vacation, and I’ll head just about anywhere in Japan for a taste of the good stuff.

Pop Pizza in Kyoto is great and authentic NY style, greasy and delicious.
2bros and Jesus Pizza in Kobe are good!! And there’s always Costco
IDK about the other stuff but Costco pizza is definitely still greasy here
I like pizza in Japan because it’s NOT greasy fat filled trash.
>Obviously, the standard Japanese pizza is bad
Speak for yourself. It’s not bad, just different from what’s usually on offer in the West
Rocco’s New York Style Pizza is my favourite place

Devil Craft has a few locations in Tokyo, and they have relatively authentic saucy, cheesey deep dish Chicago style pizza.
The Jiyugaoka location has amazing Detroit style pizza on Wednesday to Friday — it’s delicious, thick, covered in cheese and sauce, and deliciously fried. It might not be exactly what you’re missing but it’s really, really good.
If you like beer, they also have really delicious beer on tap.

I like Pizza Hut overall, but I find that the Pepperoni Supreme (is that the name?) is *particularly* greasy. Like, leaves-grease-marks-all-over-the-box kind of greasy. I avoid it for this reason, but maybe it’s what you’re looking for.
Wow, as someone used to italien pizza, I thought pizza in Japan is awful because it is way too american
Pizza Slice in Shibuya.
Well, I bought a pizza at Costco in Kanagawa and my Japanese wife wouldn’t eat it. That’s sayin something.
Costco pepperoni slice
American Pizza is the worst atrocity I have ever seen committed to food. Italian pizza all the way.

Pizza Slice in Daikanyama or Omotesando. (I think there’s a slight edge to the original location in Daikanyama.)

Yes – insta slice in Harajuku has NY style slices, across the street PDX taproom has craft beer from Portland 👌
Apparently Jujo also has a place called Rocco’s but I’ve never tried it. Pizza in general is so damn expensive in Japan
probably not anywhere close to where you are but Couch in Nagasaki City is pretty good imo
Costco
From BC? Not many small town western canadians here
Pizzakaya in Roppongi has the best American pizza I have eaten in Japan, and it is a lot better than most I’ve had in America also.
I donno where you are but if you’re around Tokyoish, you definitely need to go a Devilcraft and Pizzakaya.
Pizzakaya
I’m from NYC. I tried pizza in Japan 2x, once I even saw it being made in a real wood fired oven. I figured it would be better. NOPE. Any pizza that flops I won’t touch.
Big new Yorker from Dominos, order with the app and it’s half price if you pick it up, like Â¥2000
