The 1940s was war, and post war austerity under the occupation. So, ‘fashionable’ was extremely constrained for both women and men, except for the very rich.
People with more fashion history than me can give you some examples, but perhaps the most unique (to Japan) men’s clothing item from the 1940s might be the mandated no-fashion workwear.
