I am moving to Japan in March. I’ll be working there. The company I am working with has asked me to send in photos so that they can start the process on my work visa.
However, I am having a difficult time getting physical photos that match their specific sizing requirements.
These are the requirements:
-Must be on photo-grade paper
– Must fit the qualities described in the link above, in terms of no glare, no shadows, etc.
– Photo quality must be clear (not pixelated, etc.)
– Must be 4cm tall and 3cm wide and the head dimension within the photo is 25mm and 6mm space between top of the head and top of the photo. The most common error that makes photos unusable is that the size is incorrect. Often, employees at common ID photo locations such as Walgreens will say that a standard visa application photo size is correct, but this is not the case – those are usually 2in by 2in, which is too large.
– Please see the following link for an online tool that may help with sizing the photos to the requirements stipulated by the Japanese immigration agency: https://visafoto.com/jp-certificate-eligibility-photo Use this link to resize larger photos.
I have used their program the achieve the appropriate internal dimensions, but the size of the physical picture is too large. Do any of you know where I can print photo-grade pictures to these specifications?

For my CoE, when I visited my wife in Japan, we took the photos at a booth and that was that. If you’re traveling there already in the next few weeks or days, that’s the easiest way to get the right photo size.
When I did my visa photo, I took a passport photo at CVS (drug store in the US), then cut it to size.
What I did was get the 2×2 inch photos at Walgreens, then cut it to size myself. Luckily they were zoomed out enough where it was viable, and immigration approved it. Good luck!
I don’t see you mention your country.
Assuming that you’re in the UK, the corner shop might have a passport photo camera, and can produce some while you wait.
If not, the local supermarket might have a photo booth.
I’d suggest a railway station. But I think they’re all gone now.
Failing that, if there’s a photoshop, they’ll do mugshots to spec.
As long as you give them plenty of leeway, the guys at immigration here can just crop and scan anyway.
