F1 Suzuka Friday practice experience?

Has anyone gone to see F1 at Suzuka Circuit and could share their experience?

Obviously the weekend is super crowded and most tickets and all parking is sold out already for the weekend, but was thinking of maybe just going to see the Friday practice session with the family since tickets are still available for the single day.

Would like to drive since we’re in Osaka but wonder if even nearby stations parking would be full on the Friday morning.

Is it worth trying? What was the Friday like at the circuit?

  1. I was there last year,on the day of the actual race on Sunday.
There is a huge parking lot within walking distance from the circuit, and it still had parking spaces available after the race started. Mind you it was raining on the day of the race.

Most people that come from outside of Mie, usually starts getting here on Friday night.
On Friday morning, I think you won’t have a problem with parking your car.
Might want to arrive in Suzuka as early as you can though, to avoid any headaches.

  2. I literally bought my tickets last week, are they already sold out for the whole weekend?

  3. I went last year and really enjoyed Friday (even though it was raining). Went on the free rides in between sessions (I had a weekend pass so I’m not sure if the Friday tickets include this). What was also nice was that we could sit on any grandstand for Friday, so we could move around and see different angles of the track

  4. Take the Kintetsu train from Namba and get off at Shiroko station. There will be shuttle bus service from the station to the circuit.

Went there last year, the event itself was well organized.

  5. I was there last year for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

I made the mistake of taking the train from Nagoya.
The nearest station from Nagoya had a line for 3hrs for people to ride the bus.
Driving from Nagoya was about an hour and a half with little to no traffic.

As for parking, most of the businesses and land owners in the surrounding area know about the grand prix and setup their empty parking lots and everything to allow cars to park. On the second day when I drove instead of take the train, I went to one of these lots and it was 6000yen a day. I had 5 people in my car, including me, so it wasn’t so bad.

Here’s where the parking I used was

Also the pachinko place nearby was charging for parking as well.

**If you don’t drive, you will be waiting to get a bus from the track, taxis will be very sparse and it’s an hour or more walk to the station. (waited 2 hours for a taxi on the way back, but taxis won’t be at suzuka unless they’re dropping someone off first.)

  6. Take a rain poncho with you. We went before the pandemic and the Saturday was cancelled due to a typhoon.

I also found it fairly ok crowd wise compared to Silverstone
