Hello. I’m in a real bind right now.
Bit of background, I possess dual citizenship with Japan and another country. I renewed my JP passport when I was underage so I didn’t have to choose one nationality just yet. But I had been planning on giving up my other passport when the time comes for me to renew my JP passport. I just kept both for now because I live in the country of my other nationality.
Yesterday, I submitted a renewal application for my other passport and they found out I had Japanese citizenship. And now there’s a chance they might inform the Japanese embassy here about it.
Now, my question is: is there a chance they’ll forcefully take my Japanese citizenship from me? Or will I have a choice on what citizenship to keep? Because I’d give up my other nationality in a heartbeat if that’s what it takes. I really don’t want to give up my Japanese citizenship. Can someone advice me on this?
