Is Nakano Broadway worth if I didn’t enjoy Akihabara?

Went to Akihabara a few days ago and was bummed out by the nature of the merch, was expecting a much wider selection but 80% of what I saw was figurines which I’m not big into. Would Nakano Broadway have more diversity in video game/anime/manga merch? Diversity in terms of clothing, water bottles, mugs, pins (which Akihabara had some), accessories, etc.? Advice would be much appreciated thanks.

  1. Nakano has a lot of figures. But there is a variety of items to see.

Nakano caters a lot to fans of older stuff. Not that there isn’t newer items, but Nakano skews HEAVY on nostalgia. Especially Showa and Heisei.

If you can’t find what you’re hunting in Akihabara, tho, it might be best to skip Nakano. You might have better luck in Harajuku or Ikebukuro.

  2. I’ve been to Nakano a few times, im not into anime but I’m a big vinyl toy/sofubi collector and we found between our visit in 2019, and then last year, it seemed significantly more anime-centric and we were a little disappointed (plus some shops we loved closed down, such was the pandemic..).

You might be better off going somewhere like animate, book-off or surugaya, honestly for what you’re after because it did seem there were alot of figures, but for any of the more obscure collectables there are always going to come at a higher price.

You might still enjoy Nakano regardless, it’s fun to walk around.
