Itinerary check – 17 days in August

Hello r/JapanTravel!
In about a month I will travel with my family to Japan. This is gonna be the first time for all of us and my parents entrusted me with the task to plan out the trip (since it was mainly my idea).

I believe that I cooked up quite a nice itinerary with pretty much everything I was interested in seeing in the cities we’ll visit. However some days are still quite empty, so I’m hoping for some suggestions on how to fill them with things do to in the area! Especially in Kyoto and our last couple of days in Tokyo. Or just general tips.

We’ll be deciding on where we want to eat spontaneously, so no food in the plan!

Day 10 – Fuji-Q / Kyoto

Day 17 – Final

Looking forward to your answers!

  1. Are you going to antiknock for a show? A few people have mentioned it on here, not realising it’s a gig venue, not a club.

For FujiQ, decide on your ‘must rides’ before you go. I ended up there on a school holiday and only got to go on two coasters before my coach ride home.

  2. * [Search around](https://en.japantravel.com/events) to see if there’s any matsuri (festival) that happens within your itinerary. There are lots of potential fireworks or local summer events you can plan around.
    * Hakone, Kamakura and Nikko are always day trips from Tokyo that can be added.
    * Stay at Kawaguchiko instead of Fuji-Q? Perhaps a ryokan experience for your parents. Though it’s probably a bit too late to book now.

  3. You might want to go to Tsukiji fish market on the day you plan to go to Ginza since it is close by. Have breakfast at Tsukiji and explore the market, then head to Ginza. After Ginza, you can either check out Hibiya park and the Imperial Palace, or walk along Marunouchi shopping street towards Tokyo station. In Tokyo station, you can check out some souvenir shops and ramen alley in the basement floor. From Tokyo station, you can head back to your hotel by taking the JR Chuo express line.
