Tokyo Gyms

Hi everyone – I will be staying in Tokyo for about 2-3 weeks starting from the second week of August. One of my friends who is currently living in Tokyo was supposed to travel with me but unfortunately he couldn’t join me anymore (so its basically a solo travel now). Now I wonder if there are gyms in the central areas that offer short-term membership. My friend who is fluent in Japanese was gonna help me with this but now I need to do this all by myself and I am worried because I don’t speak Japanese.

Thank you for your help in advance.

  1. You can get a monthly pass to Konami sports. I spend one month in Japan every year and have been doing this for the past 10 years. It costs ¥6000-¥150000 depending on what type you get and will give you access to all facilities nationwide in your band. I’m a swimmer so do it for the pools (and the sauna/baths) but the workout facilities usually look good too.

Unfortunately I think this will be pretty difficult to do if you cannot read/speak Japanese. IMO the online sites and staff are exclusively Japanese language.

You may be able to find some other high class/expensive gyms that offer easier English access but IMO Konami offers the biggest bang for your buck.

If you decide to try by yourself I’d pick a location like Ebisu where you’ve got more chance of encountering some English speaking staff. You need to make sure to join for a month and then – preferably in the same interaction – have the staff cancel your membership. This is what I do every year and it makes for a great experience to have that easy access throughout my trip/stay.

  2. We are off to Japan in August, we booked hotels that have fitness facilities, though i suspect my mileage may vary as to the quality. For 2.5 weeks, i found it next to impossible as a non-Japanese speaker to sort out gyms – [this](https://fitnesstravelerjapan.com/tokyo) site helped a bit, but in the end ive given up and will use whatever is in the hotels.

  3. If you have anytime fitness membership, it will work in Tokyo. I’m not sure if Gold’s Gym does the same.

  4. If you already have a gym membership with Anytime Fitness they are popping up all over Tokyo. I visited the one in Shinjuku. Your pass works at any of the gyms worldwide!

  5. I joined anytime fitness in my city recently since I was looking for a gym anyways and know that it can be used world wide so I plan on using it in my month trip in November. It’s pretty affordable if you also have anytime fitness in your city

  6. I probs try both anytime fitness and Gold’s gym cos both are not available in my city. Thank you everyone for comments!

  7. I’m gonna be in Tokyo around 26th of aug I think there is a gym in my hotel too
