Nagano Immigration Tax Documents for Visa Renewal

My work place has always taken care of the visa renewal documents for the last 6 years and given me a list of everything I need. I’ve never needed more then the visa renewal documents, my passport, and zairyu card for the first trip. I checked the website again this weekend and noticed they say to bring some proof of tax and other documents. So I’m thinking it’s new but seems likes it been a thing for awhile looking at past post. Has anyone renewed in Nagano recently and needed those documents?

  1. I had a similar situation in Nagoya when I renewed this past May: my company always supplies me with the necessary documents, but this about two or three weeks after filing the paperwork at Immigration, I received a letter requesting three additional tax documents. The first two, I got printed from my ward’s tax office (for 300 yen apiece) and sent to Immigration myself, but the third document had to be sent directly from my company’s head office to Immigration.

  2. It has nothing to do with Nagano. The tax documents have been a requirement for certain classifications of visa renewal for a long time. It just happens that they don’t ask for it sometimes, despite it being a requirement. Like so many things involving immigration, they aren’t very transparent about why this happens, so don’t expect an answer.

  3. This isn’t new. They have requiring it for years because I had to go to city hall annual to get this tax document with my current company to renew my visa. I don’t remember going to city hall for this document in 2016, with my previous company in Tokyo.

  4. Tokyo resident here. They asked me for 納税証明書 for the first time after 4 years …I was surprised but hopefully that will make it. Now hoping that they send me my new card soon cause my visa extension period officially expired 😂
