  1. Bangladesh ranks above the United States. That’s all you need to know about that particular report.

  2. *swiss based think tank*

Its the world economic forum. No agenda here folks.

Japan can look to bastions of women’s rights like russia, tanzania, angola, united arab emirates, etc.

    full report here:

My problem is not necessarily the data, which is not falsified of course and follows establish analyzing methods. It is that they create and define the categories exclusively, how it’s weighted etc. It’s up to you to decide if their methodology is fair or not.

  3. Why does this sub always get so defensive and start boogiemanning “ignorant westerners” whenever any mention of Japanese women’s rights being anything less than flawless is brought up?

The metrics are listed in the report and include the proportion of women in legislative roles, wage gaps, and female life expectancy. Obviously it’s an incomplete picture but if Japan were actually a bastion of women’s rights I would like to hear explanations as to why they would score so poorly on them.

There are also cultural issues e.g. groping on trains and women being required to wear high heels to work.

Deflecting to other countries (w-what about Bangladesh?) is perhaps the worst way to respond to this.

  4. Japan doesn’t deserve to be in the G7 if they won’t act like a G7 nation. What a massive embarrassment for them on the world stage.
