US Student at International Christian University

I’m an American college student studying abroad this upcoming academic year in Japan at International Christian University (ICU). I have some questions about general life and the international student social life if anyone would be kind enough to help 🙂

I have N5 level Japanese language skills, which isn’t ideal but I’m hoping to improve a lot while abroad. I want to get involved in ICU’s social scene but am nervous it will be very difficult with this level of Japanese. Are English speakers able to socially integrate into ICU well? Do circles accept students with low level Japanese skills? I plan to put in a lot of effort to not rely on English when possible.

How are the Japanese language courses?

I also want to see as much of Japan as possible while abroad. I’d love to hear any recommendations for feasible weekend or day drips.

Thank you for your help!
