Has Japan adopted the curtsy?

I know that the bow is an important part of everyday etiquette in Japan, but recently I saw a young woman give an older lady a gift with the usual two hands and a bow, but then do a little curtsy as well. Is this a tradition or something recently adopted or was it just the young woman wanting to show an extra bit of respect?

  1. We ordinary Japanese never use curtsy as an etiquette. Maybe she brought up abroad or graduated from an international school. At least, I’ve never seen Japanese curtsy except for Lady Masako on TV.
