Best Eikaiwa student books/workbooks?

Hey! I’m planning to go it alone with teaching esl in Japan and I want to start teaching preschool and elementary in 1 hour lessons. I’ve already got students lined up for April and I’m trying to decide what textbook I should use.

There is such a variety of student/workbooks available for teaching English. Let’s go, my first grammar, super kids, Magic English, Family and Friends etc etc.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

In particular a series that is specifically suitable for esl, eikaiwa style, once a week English lessons for 1 hour with kids that don’t get any other English exposure.

I just want to teach high quality lessons using a good resource, there are so many out there so I would appreciate any advice or recommendations.

I know many eikaiwa use their own worksheets but I am hesitant to rely on my own idea of what they should know and would prefer a book series that can offer some sort of curriculum that is recommended by others.

  1. Let’s Go and Everybody Up are both fine as a core text and My First Grammar is good as supplementary material.

  2. If you want to avoid Let’s Go, I used Oxford’s Magic Time & English Time texts when I worked at a private eikaiwa before.
