3. I’m watching the show and opened Reddit (because I was bored during this match) and saw this post at the exact moment this spot happened in the match. That’s gonna mess me up for the entire day.

6. So I’m relatively new to NJPW in terms of following it deeply. I’ve seen all the big matches from around 2017 on, but haven’t ever followed a whole g1 or seen a lot of the more “undercard” guys. I get why Hikuleo is in the tournament I suppose even if I think he’s boring, but why is Chase Owens here? I had never seen him but Kevin Kelly was saying he’s been here for 9 years?? Has he always been…this? All his matches are in my bottom 9-10 so far In the tourney.

12. i consistently say to myself “what are we doing” 2 or 4 times a show whenever i sit down to watch NJPW these days.

    tried to watch “the whole G1” last year and learned my lesson.

13. Why does everyone hate Chase Owens so dang much?

    He’s not being put in a spot where he’s defeating A-Listers. He’s using dirty tricks, he’s in a block of young kids and he’s barely eeking through his matches. In my mind, he’s a perfect addition to A Block, showing all the younger wrestlers that they need to think to win their match, because if they get too hot-headed they could get caught in a roll-up, or if they turn their back they could get hit with a weapon. That can provide them some development down the road, and benefit them far more than Chase.

    Is there a better person who could have taken his spot? Perhaps, I’m not a wrasslin genius. But he does what he’s supposed to do.

15. Not a huge fan of Chase Owens, I don’t look forward to his matches but I still think the hate he gets is too much. I’d rather see Tom Lawlor or someone else in this block but Chase plays his role and will probably not have a big win over any big name. I guess he’s just one of those guys that some people blindly hate to a ridiculous degree like Finlay or EVIL.

16. I’m sorry but Chase never got over with me. Just comes off as a try-hard soft body.

17. Can’t say this enough. Chase Owens looks like the teenaged 7/11 clerk who uses Axe body spray as an alternative to actual deodorant.

18. I like Chase. Has a role, plays it well. Adds a certain flavour to the gumbo. Never a highlight but never actually bad either. For me anyway.

19. Chase Owens is amazing! I’m so stoked for this run in the G1. Dude has been busting his ass for years. Wrestles locally in Texas and the goes and busts his ass in Japan. I’ve attended some seminars of his and he’s just a great guy.

21. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a match be as unover as this one was. Every single time they tried to get the crowd into it they somehow took them out of it further, which was amazing considering nobody gave a fuck in the first place

24. Look it’s fine, Chase fits his role and doesn’t over stay his welcome. He won’t be beating a Naito or Taichi, he just works safe and goes 50/50. He is actual bullet club which gives him points to me and seeing him beat Gabe Kid to make a point that this “war dog” era is the same gimmick but just young dumb guys had some story telling to me.
