My mom is an aspiring applicant of the program and, granted she gets accepted, she wishes to bring me along with her in the hope that I could go to school there for college. Does the program allow that?
If you are not a minor I don’t think you can be granted a visa.
If you’re a minor yes
If you want to go there for college, you’ll probably be looking at getting a student visa on your own.
If you’re going there for college you’ll need to be accepted to a college, which would be easier as an international student so you’d want to apply before your mom comes over.
Also… do you want to go to college in Japan? Going to college in Japan just so you can stay close to your mom sounds very, uh, for the lack of a better word, childish?
You also have to keep in mind you do not get to choose your placement, so she might be placed in the countryside with no close by college, especially one that doesn’t offer an English program.
Dependent visas do exist for minor children though. Honestly if you want to study as an adult you’ll probably not qualify and need to get a student visit of your own.
It would probably be better for you to apply for colleges as an international student. It will make the visa paperwork a bit less complicated and you won’t have to worry about the Japanese bureaucracy deciding last second that it isn’t possible. You will also have much more freedom with what college you go to, your mom won’t feel pressured to stay for 4-5 years (not everyone likes teaching English), finding part-time work will be easier, and you can take more courses that cater to international students (English taught for difficult subjects).
