Note on train: studied a bit. I got the Suica card on my iPhone. Looks like can be used for both metro underground train and JR trains. But I will need a separate bullet train expensive ticket for Kyotos travel. Still trying to figure out if I have that right or if the JR rail pass is cheaper.

  1. Round trip to Kyoto is about the price of 7 days pass, so no savings, really not necessary.

You can do something on the day you take the train, like take the train in the morning and visit something in the afternoon. Honestly. For barely more than a full day in Kyoto, I personally do not think that it’s worth the time or the money.

Also, what website do you plan to use to book the shinkansen. The only legit options is Smart EX, if it’s anything else, it is likely re-sellers and they might upcharge you.

  2. On a trip this short, Kyoto doesn’t make sense. You compromise both locations instead of focusing on one area. Stick to Tokyo and take a day trip or even a nite in Kamakura (and Enoshima if you please).
