First Time in Japan Honeymoon Itinerary Check 13 Days: (Tokyo, Kyoto, Hakone, Tokyo Disney)

Hey everyone!

My husband (31) and I (34) are going to Japan to celebrate a late honeymoon/our one-year anniversary and would love some help on our itinerary (this subreddit has already been a huge help).

This will be our first time in Japan (and my husband’s first time out of the country in general). We’re a mixture of the gotta-go and meandering personalities but both walk a ton and love architecture, nature, fancy food and especially fancy cocktails.

Neither of us are huge anime/manga people, but we enjoy Studio Ghibli and my husband loves Pokemon so we’re definitely going to try to go to the Pokemon Cafe.

The only things we have completely set in stone are our hotels and flights, so any recommendations/suggestions/alterations are welcome.
I’d also appreciate any suggestions for cocktail bars/fancy restaurants/vintage clothing stores with menswear too!

TOKYO (Oct 24-27)
Day 1 – Arrive at Narita Airport, take the train to Keio Plaza, check out the view at the Tokyo Metropolitan Building, and have an easy night getting dinner somewhere in Shinjuku

Day 2 – Easy day, go to visit Myonichikan in the mid-morning and Rikugien Gardens before heading to dinner and drinks

Day 3 – Take the Chuo Line to Edo Tokyo Open Air Architecture Museum then go down the Chuo Line with stops at (hopefully) the Ghibli
Museum, food at Tensuke, and vintage shopping at Suntrap/Sokkoyo, dinner somewhere before drinks at Golden Gai

Day 4 – Trip to Senso Ji, the Tokyo National Museum, and Ameyoko Shopping Street, late night drinks at bars in Ni-chome

KYOTO (Oct 28-30)
Day 5 – Shinkansen/Karasuma Line to Nol Kyoto Sanjo, walk to Nikishi Market for snacks, check out Gion in the late afternoon, drinks at
Bee’s Knees

Day 6 – Morning visit to Kiyomizu-Dera and Nineizaka, afternoon trip on the Sagano Romance Train, hopefully get kaiseki somewhere before early bed to wake up early the next day

Day 7 – Wake up early to get to Fushimi Inari Taisha, head to Kinkakuji in the afternoon, drinks at Bar Rocking Chair

HAKONE/DISNEY (Oct 31 – Nov 2)
Day 8 – Train to Hakone and do the loop (or as much as we can), spend the night at Hakone Airu

Day 9 – Train to check into the Tokyo Disney Toy Story Hotel and do a quick late afternoon visit to Tokyo Disneyland

Day 10 – Spend the entire day at Tokyo Disney Sea

TOKYO (Nov 3 – 5)
Day 11 – Teamlab Planets in the morning and then hopefully the Pokemon Cafe (this will move and swap with something if I can get seats earlier too), head back to Keio Plaza for the rest of our trip

Day 12 – COMPLETELY FREE DAY (Shopping for us/friends)

Day 13 – Have the morning free and then head to Haneda Airport for our 5pm flight.

  1. Sounds pretty American 😆 So much disney for a short Japan travel. Beware of jet lag. But your first two days are pretty chill. Have fun

  2. I would skip Disney and add an onsen town. Yeah it will be hot but still more interesting than Disney imo

  3. Seems like a fine itinerary.

I know some people are down on Disney, but honestly, Japanese theme parks, even ones like Disney and Universal Studios, despite being American, have a lot of charm unique to Japan.

Nothing more then that to really add.

  4. Don’t listen to the Disney haters!! You only have 1.5 days at Disney which is perfect for an almost two week trip! 🙂 Im a huge Disney fan, so obviously very biased, but the Tokyo parks are definitely not at all “American”. They are very much a very Japanese experience and you’ll have a fantastic time.

Your itinerary looks great and I hope you have a blast! Congrats on your anniversary too!!
