GTN Fiber-optic, a good choice?

I searched for this but didn’t find much info. Anyone have experience with GTN Fiber-optic? Is there a limit? Speed issues? Cons?….etc? Thank you.

  1. GTN is a provider on top of NTT flets infrastructure, “Exclusively for Foreigners in Japan”.

If you require English support, choose Asahi-net instead. If you require a single bill with NTT + provider charges combined, again, choose Asahi-net. Other good choices that run on NTT fiber are OCN (NTT’s ISP division), biglobe, IIJ. au hikari runs on KDDI fiber, so it may be better/worse than NTT depending on your area. Nuro is another option.

Anyway, if you already have NTT fiber in the building then just pick a provider. Anything but GTN.

  2. GTN is a credit card company for foreigners and a guarantor company as well, they seem to have a lot of Koreans working there. GTN is kinda mousy in my opinion. I like having them inbetween me and my rental company but they will transform your translation into not what you say but what sounds good/normal. It’s convenient but if you know absolutely no Japanese they might not be so bad. I relied on them my first couple years in Japan.

If you get a credit card through them and they’re your guarantor it might not be a terrible choice, but I’ve heard the recommendations /u/bloggie2 mentioned as being much better.
