Kawaguchiko two day itinerary check

Hi Guys!

I’m planning a trip to Japan during th last two weeks of december – I’d to stay in the kawaguchiko area and soak in the views of Mt.Fuji. I have a rough itinerary, but I wanted to make sure that it was feasible. I’d be starting from Tokyo.

Day 1:

– start early from tokyo, take a JR train to otsuki and then shift to the fujikyu line until kawaguchiko.

– take a rental bike(after depositing luggage) for the day and see the following:
– The Ropeway before it gets too crowded.
– The torii in the sky(tenku no torii)
– Kubota Ichiku art museum
– Oishi Park.

– Spend the rest of the day chilling in an onsen😂(accommodation in Fujiyoshida).

Day 2:

– Start early and walk to honcho street, see the instagrammy mt.fuji view.
– Chureito Pagoda – arakurayama sengen park.
– Use the bus to get to Oshino Hakkai.

– Leave Kawaguchiko for Kyoto.

Please do let me know if it’s too underpacked or overpacked. I couldn’t find other schedules on this subreddit that mentioned the torii, so I thought of making a new post.

Thanks a lot in advance 🙂

  1. I can’t comment on everything you have planned, but based on my day trip to Kawaguchiko about a month ago, I would recommend not renting your bike before going on the ropeway. We got to the ropeway around 9:45 am and even 15 minutes after opening, we had to wait 20 minutes to go up. When we got down around 11am, the line was easily over an hour long. Since it’s an easy 10 minute walk from Kawaguchiko station, just walk to the ropeway first and then rent the bike after so you’re not paying for time you don’t need. We did that and then biked the entire perimeter of Lake Kawaguchi.

  2. If you want it to be faster to go, you have two other options, both take about the same time. First option is highway bus, that is the cheapest. Second option is JR train called Fuji Excursion, you should make a seat reservation.

Note that the hike up to the to p of the ropeway is fairly easy if you want to skip the ropeway.

There does not seems to be a train going remotely close to Oshino Hakkai. Maybe you would need a bus instead.

Also, did you check how to go to Kyoto from Kawaguchiko ? You will either have to take a bus to Mishima to get on the Shinkansen or take the train backtracking toward Tokyo, you can go take the shinkansen at Shin-Yokohama. That will take several hours, so you cannot spend too much time on the rest of the things you want to see.
