ASPIRING JET from the PH

Hello, I just want to ask if my experience and involvement in the church as a choir member would be enough as my experience in my volunteering work? I do not have any teaching experience, and the course I took is not related in teaching. I’m currently employed in a private company as an accounting staff, and a mother of 3 kids. I do really love children, just like my kids. I also love Japan and it is my dream country, that’s why I was inspired in applying to JET. I do have my TEFL certificate, and currently enrolled in a Japanese language center.

What are your insights about this? Thank you!

  1. Hello,

In my opinion, any experience that shows that you have transferable skills is relevant. Were you on time and punctual? Did you organize meetings, practice sessions, etc? Were you involved in planning, organizing, or leading the group in any capacity? Just make sure that you showcase your skills and commitment for any position you list or talk about and you’ll be fine 🙂

  2. JET PH here. I know people from my batch got in without having a teaching license. And I think there are also those who got in despite not having teaching experience.

Just like what others said, highlight skills that you were able to develop in your volunteering experience (and highlight how it’s going to help you in Japan). It might also be a good thing to teach part time ESL classes online just to be sure.

    Good luck!

  3. Hello mommies, I like to know your idea of bringing your children with you to Japan. What about their studies? Thank you!
