Best way to transport luggage?

I’m heading to Tokyo in the fall for an exchange program (for about a year) and wondered what might be the best way to get the luggage to my dormitory.

I’ll be arriving at Haneda and noticed a few luggage delivery services such as Yamato but I’m a bit concerned on how long it may take. On the other hand I’m not very experienced with trains (especially in Tokyo) and nervous to bring luggage on my first trip. Taxis also seem to be pretty expensive so I’m not too certain what I should do.

If anyone has experience please let me know! Cheers!

Depending on when you arrive it could be as soon as the next day.

Most people pack 2-3 days worth of essentials to cover the time while they’re waiting for their luggage to arrive.

  3. I’ve used them several times. Last time in 2019 Tokyo to Osaka took 24h. I just pack some clothes in a small backpack just in case they take longer and that’s it. I’ve shipped with them even luggage with electronics and more delicate stuff I need for work and it has been always fast and fine

  4. I’ll also suggest using Yamato baggage delivery. I usually go the counter located in the south wing of Terminal 1 to have my luggage shipped to my home in Okayama. It’s so much easier to travel when you don’t have to think about your luggage, and the service is relatively affordable. They’re really efficient and will try to accommodate your schedule, even holding it for a while if you’re going to be busy. The staff at the counter can speak enough English to help you complete the forwarding.
It can be hell trying to wrangle luggage in the busy Tokyo trains and stations, so definitely consider forwarding it.
