Struggling, and looking for help

As the title suggests I am struggling with my Japanese. My tutor believes it is because I don’t have anyone to practice speaking with (even though I am still at a beginner level) I was wondering if there is an app or something I could use to meet native Japanese speakers, and have casual conversations and stuff with them. Where either they speak English along with Japanese, or they are learning English and are looking to do the same thing I am doing. Thanks!

  1. HelloTalk is one such app, I think. I think you can also use apps like [ome.tv](https://ome.tv) but that’s pretty hit or miss whether you’ll get people from Japan. I think you might be able to use a VPN to be more likely to get matched with certain countries on [ome.tv](https://ome.tv) but I’m really not sure.

  2. Yes. Actually speaking or using the language is critical.

I used HelloTalk for a while. It’s good. Hard to make a real connection, and occasionally you’ll run into a scammer do gives you a sob story about being out of money. Just ghost them.

But what really helped me the most is passive listening. Japanese YouTube or radio. I’m shocked at how much this has helped.

    Edit:
Journaling also helped me too. A ton.

  3. Tandem app and look for “Parties”. Sometimes a waste of time but sometimes helpful. Its just tricky to get on at the right times so I put Tokyo on world clock on my phone.
