Where to find Ranch sauce?

Where can I buy Ranch sauce in Japan? I’ve tried going to Kaldi and multiple super markets.

  1. I’ve never seen ranch in stores. Sometimes I’ll see Kewpie has a ranch that they are selling on Amazon but I haven’t tried it. I’ve had the ranch mix packets sent from America and made it myself before.

  2. My local A-Price has the Kewpie one although I’ve never bought it. Jupiter had one years ago which was called something like American Dressing but haven’t see it in years

  3. This is a real struggle. Even if you import the powder kind that you have to mix up with sour cream, the sour cream here is super thick and you end up with ranch-flavored spackle. I guess you could cut it with water, but I didn’t think about trying that at the time.

  4. It used to be sold here as “California Creamy” but I haven’t seen it available in years and looking online all the stores are sold out so I have to assume they don’t make it any more.

    The Kewpie ranch is ok but tastes different from the American fare.

  5. It more or less doesn’t exist.

    If you want something reasonably close-ish that it readily available, caesar dressing.

    If you want the real thing, unless you want to spend 5,000 importing it then best option is to make it youself.

  6. In 1.5 decades, I’ve seen it three times (and never for sale):

    1. Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Kasumigaseki
    2. Mother Moon Cafe in Rokko Island, Kobe
    3. Big Iowa BBQ in Roppongi(Beware: Their barbecue is just OK and their cornbread is straight-up bad, but if you really want veggie sticks with ranch, they have veggie sticks with ranch.)

  7. Milk, mayonnaise (or sour cream), lemon juice, pepper (can add parsley), garlic salt. If you want to be fancy, add dill.

  8. I make a dry ranch seasoning mix (easily Googleable, expect a lot of parsley and garlic powder), then hydrate with mayo (homemade if you are able).

    Truly I use it dry mostly as a rub or flavored sprinkle.

  9. Only place I’ve seen hidden valley ranch here is on Amazon. Haven’t looked that hard for it though.

  10. If you’re that desperate, I have base access and can easily get you some. PM me.

    edit: I can’t sell it, cuz that would be black marketing and that’s illegal.

  11. Iherb. Or buy buttermilk or buttermilk powder from Amazon and learn to make it.

  12. Make friends with US service members or someone who has access to the commissary on the US bases. They’ve got everything you’d find back in the US, from ranch to jalapeno kettle chips, mouthwash with fluoride, and even blue bell ice cream.

  13. It doesn’t exist. McDonald’s had nuggets with ranch dressing for a brief moment, but it was a big flop so it disappeared. I knew the guy who made it, he said Japanese people thought it was supposed to be Caesar dressing (white and creamy) and therefore were confused at the taste and didn’t like it.

    Get the powdered packs from the US, mix it with thick Japanese sour cream and thin it with milk. Adjust powder for your taste and milk for your desired texture

  14. I feel like I’ve seen it at National Azabu but I’m not positive.

  15. Op order the packets of ranch mix its way better than the bottle trust me.

  16. It’s easier to learn to make it yourself. When I first got to Japan (before I could read) six years ago, I kept buying random ranch looking bottles of sauce in my local AVE and being very disappointed every time

  17. Don Quixote! We’ve found it there a bunch of times. Likely Life grocery stores also carry it.

  18. Amazon? I mean I can get Australian beer here. Shouldn’t be too difficult for anything American

  19. I had a friend bring me a bunch of ranch packets when they came to visit, and just mix it in with a bit of mayo. Don’t know where you’d buy the packets, but if you can get your hands on them it’s great cuz you don’t have to measure or make large batches

    Add the lemon and whisk again. Pour into a jar and chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

    * 1/2 cup sour cream
    * 1/2 cup buttermilk or regular milk
    * ¾ – 1 teaspoon dried dill weed
