ALT Enquiry.

Goodday everyone. Nice to be here. I have a question pls and I’ll appreciate your responses. I am a teacher back home in Ghana. I have NCE(education) and BSC(early childhood). I recently found out about being an ALT, I’ve tried applying via online agencies and most don’t seem to recruit from my country. Pls are there other ways I can apply to schools directly or how to get agencies that accepts teachers from my country. Thank you.

  1. Try to apply for OWLS. They are an ALT dispatcher almost exclusively based in Kyushu that has a strong hold in the area. Out of all the ALT dispatchers, they without a doubt have the most diverse group of ALTs from different countries around the world.

  2. Biggest reason they don’t hire from outside of English speaking countries is visa requirements. ALTs uses instructors visa which usually requires at least k-12 in English.

Schools and BOEs that does direct hiring usually do not hire outside of Japan.

  3. Hey man. I’m from Ghana too. Borderlink does recruit ALTs from Ghana. Please get on gaijinpot.com, create a profile and apply to Borderlink on there. My sister and a couple of friends who are all Ghanaians have all worked for Borderlink as ALTs. I also worked for them on a part time contract for two years.

  4. As long as you were taught primary school in English, you wouldn’t have a problem getting a job with Interac.

Edit: I mixed up what is considered primary school. Perks of being homeschooled. You need secondary education in English as well.

  5. Maybe look into Eikaiwa. My company hires outside of popular English speaking countries but you need to at least have some qualifications and meet the visa requirements. There are other places that hire outside of America/UK/etc too. You just need to keep looking and apply. You’d be surprised.

    Edit:
Just make sure to investigate the place. There are some less than desirable locations to work for. Not everyone takes advantage of teachers but some places do. Always check the contracts too. If they add weird stuff in there, it’s better to reject the position and keep looking.

  6. Thanks slot guys. I’ve applied for every agency being recommended here and I’m hoping for the best
    Thanks again.
