I had a surprising use of an English song today (unexpectedly inappropriate!)

I was at a performance today where a person was doing a performance with circus type tricks (an innocent performance!) when a electro bass song came on with the words “I don’t want no small dick man!” And then continued to describe said unwanted appendage for a short while with words like shriveled…

I was desperately trying not to laugh, it was a family friendly event and I assume they didn’t realize what the song said.

I sent the business a fb message after just to warn them if an English speaker were to come in future and take offense. I won’t name the place since I don’t want to cause trouble, but what an unexpected surprise lol

  1. Visit the street dance performances and you’ll experience this a lot. Even funnier when it’s little kids dancing away to it.

  2. Fairly common to hear explicit English lyrics in shops and at events. Lots of 90s gangster rap.

  3. You people are too young. It’s a classic. “I dont want no short dick man”.

  4. It’s an old song from the 90s. It used to be on the radio in Germany all the time. Made for some very awkward drives with grandparents.

  5. Hold on! I listened to the song and the laughs at the beginning sounded very familiar and i remembered the sped up version is used on some Tik Tok videos 🤮

  6. I think the line is “Don’t want no short dick man” and it goes on from there As for what happened to you and everyone being oblivious to the lyrics but you? Hahahahahaha classic Japan

  7. Yeahhhh this is pretty normal. You’ll hear very explicit music in stadiums a lot too.

  8. They actually played that song on a children’s tv show in my country, 20 something years ago. No one spoke English, so the kids were just dancing to “I don’t want no short dick man” as if it was Barney or something.

  9. That song is very popular on TikTok. I think it’s quite dated, from the 80’s or 90’s. It goes ‘don’t want no, don’t want no short – dick man’ right?

  10. Short-dick man

    Short dick-man

    Short dick, man

    Short. Dick. Man.

If anything, the song presents great English-learning opportunities.

  11. Welcome to Japan. You’ll hear this at grocery stores, etc too. Not this particular song, but songs with explicit lyrics in odd places.

  12. Many years ago in our joke of a training session as Eikawa teachers, we were given extremely harsh warnings about watching what sort of language we use at the school. And then the first day I walked into the school, the sound system was belting out “Move bitch get out de way”

  13. You see this a lot in Asia with tee-shirts. Folks wearing things with very vulgar slogans, thinking they look cool haha

  14. I’ve heard The Prodigy’s “smack my bitch up” song used on variety/game shows so many times over the years, always makes me chuckle when it’s playing over some segment with an idol or a kid. I think it’s one of their go-to background songs during some intense action chase, race etc segment
