Itinerary check: 10 day trip Nikko/toyko/Kawaguchiko/hakone

Hi could I please get some feedback on my current itinerary. I’m not sure if I’m being too ambitious here. This will be my husband and my 3rd time to japan but the first time we’ll be traveling with our kids: 7 yo, 3yo and 2yo.

Oct 20: arr in Tokyo
Day 1: Arrive NRT – train to Tokyo city, staying in Shinjuku. Easy day and light exploration of Shinjuku to recover from flight. Aim to go to Yoyogi park.

Oct 21-Oct 23: NIKKO (2 nights)

Oct 21: Wake early, train to Nikko – hire car in Nikko to explore. Stay and explore main areas in Nikko (shinkyo bridge, rinnoji temple, Nikko toshogu)

Oct 22: Okunikko – kegon falls, lake chuzenji, hangersuyama

Oct 23: edo wonderland. Then return the rental car and take the afternoon train back to Tokyo. Relaxed and easy exploration around Tokyo.

Oct 23-26: TOKYO

Oct 24: Tokyo: team lab planet, then maybe take a water bus to asakusa. Maybe kidzania if time permits.

Oct 25: Disneyland

Oct 26: Disneysea

Oct 27: KAWAGUCHIKO Onsen experience
pick up hired car from Tokyo train station and drive to Kawaguchiko. Overnight stay in Kawaguchiko. Explore music forest, iyashi no sato, ichiku kubota art museum.

Oct 28: HAKONE
drive from Kawaguchiko to Hakone. Staying overnight in halone (open air museum, pirate ship, ropeway)

Oct 29: HAKONE back to TOKYO
relaxed sleep in, drive back to Tokyo station to return rental car. Depart HND in the evening.

I’m still going back and forth on a lot of things as I keep questioning if it’ll be too full on with kids. We really want to do Disneyland and Disneysea but am not keen to spend too much time in Tokyo city. We live in a busy city so we like going to quieter, more nature-based areas on holidays.

Would love to hear anyone’s experience hiring a car and driving out of tokyo.
