Drugstore stomach medication recommendation

I am traveling to Vietnam this summer and know that I will get stomach issues from the food probably.

Does anyone have any recommendations on stomach medicine or food poisoning meds I can find via drugstore counter in Japan. I want to pack some before I go.

TIA

  1. Bioferemin has one that kinda works. There’s another kind of bioferemin which you can take daily to build gut health. And in Vietnam I’m sure there’s a pharmacy that can help you if you get stomach troubles.

  2. Drink bottled water, eat only peeled fruits (and vegetables, I got really sick every time from eating tomatoes at a buffet restaurant in Turkey until I figured out tomatoes = lots of water, made me run to the toilet after each meal) no ice cubes in your drinks, be careful with street foods and have you looked into travel vaccination? My GP said once about hepatitis A “it takes only one dirty person who doesn’t wash his hands after a toilet visit working in a hotel or restaurant kitchen to get sick and you’ll deal with the effects for months, so please get vaccinated”.

  3. A lot of people swear by 正露丸(seirougan). Tastes and smells like the devil.

I’m not sure if it actually does anything but when I have _really_ bad diarrhea it usually feels like it helps(?).

On the Chinese side of things, you may be able to find Po Chai Pills in some places.

Otherwise I recommend just trying to get standard OTC Western medicine, since the above recommendations are just herbs.

  4. Currently suffering from food poisoning which I got yesterday in the Philippines.
Buy Imodium and activated charcoal tablets…

    Ebios also works pretty fine.
