1. Every time I see these threads my brain briefly assumes it’s about Boss Coffee.

2. NPB fans, what will happen to all of the Oendan songs when the league inevitably adopts the MLB pitch clock? 15 seconds between pitches is not nearly enough time to get through most of them. On the other hand, it might also allow them to play some more extra innings before calling it a tie.

3. It’s time to get my driving license renewed. I got the hagaki and it’s written renewal process should take 2 hours, would I have to write any quiz/test? If not, why exactly a 2 hour timeframe is specified?

4. What’s with the spate of new purposefully inflammatory threads where OP never replies? And fake ones?

   I heard the dead cyclist thread also ended up being fake, is there some reason people are that bored, as to troll this sub of all places?

5. Sort of an AITA question I want some opinions.

   Yesterday we went to a restaurant for lunch and before they served us our mains they gave us a salad to share. This was a basic ass salad, 3 slices of cucumber, 3 wedges of tomato and some lettuce and cabbage mix. Naturally we didn’t think about it because we’ve been to places that gave out complimentary starters like that before. So when we finished the server came to us and apologized that they made a mistake and the salad was supposed to be for the table next to us. They added the cost of the salad on our bill which was around ¥700!

   We didn’t even want this damn salad anyway. Annoying that they told us the fact after we finished the salad so we couldn’t return it after their fuck up and we didn’t wolf it down in two seconds flat either. My husband was annoyed about it but payed the extra cost he was saving face.

   I thought it was unreasonable for them to charge us full price for that salad because of their fuck up. This wasn’t a chain, it was a small mom and pop restaurant. Would I be the asshole if I contested the bill for future reference?

   Also who wants to order a ¥700 salad like that?

7. When driving, are you allowed to cross a solid yellow line to enter a driveway/entrance on the otehr side of the road? Say I’m in the left lane and there’s a konbini on the right. Assuming it’s safe, am I allowed to turn right and enter the carpark? What about when exiting, can I cross back over into the far lane?
   I’m having trouble finding a clear answer. Some pages say it’s big no no but I see people doing it on the road.

8. North Americans – have any of you been able to replicate the liquid cheese dip that is prevalent in Mexican restaurants all across North America, using Japan-sourced (including import store) ingredients?

10. PSA to all combini tamago sando gourmets, the best food in the world. Seems both famima and seven changed the recipe to add 10g more fat!

    So they’re now 100kcal more, 10g more fat, carbs / protein roughly the same.

    My take is it is less eggs and more mayo #shrinkflation

    I tried one from famima today, I don’t have them so often but it tasted a bit gross indeed.

14. Balding men – How do you keep your dome smoothly shaven? I’ve been using clippers at the zero setting, but want to go smoother / shorter. Does anyone use a typical beard shaver with the three circular heads? If so, can anyone recommend any? I’m a bit apprehensive about using a razor; too scared I’ll cut myself too often (and blades / shaving cream are expensive).

15. Has anyone been here long enough to have visited YES’89 (Yokohama Exotic Showcase)? If so, what was going on there?

    I received some memorial towels from the event yesterday as a gift (deadstock) and they’ve got blimps, old ships, and satellites on them.

    Googling it, it seems there was a roller coaster, but I’m at a loss as to what the _exotic_ things they were exhibiting were. Anyone?

17. I’ve been loaded up with 30classes a week with about a third being private classes. I work from 12 to 9 almost everyday M-F. My salary is roughly 300k. Is this normal for an eikawa, in terms of classes, salary?

18. we’re expecting a baby next year and have chosen our hospital. the hospital wants a down payment and a financial guarantor.

    we’re both foreign nationals with no family in japan to be guarantors, and i feel like asking friends or coworkers would be overstepping.

    is a financial guarantor typically required? what have other people in this position done?

    i was considering offering to pay a larger down payment, or seeing if a guarantor company can fulfil this role like they can for apartment rentals? are these stupid ideas?

19. Bought the new black curry bento from seven today. It said 激辛 with 5 🌶️ next to it. I thought it would be mildly spicy at most. I was wrong, that was pretty damn spicy indeed.
