Certificate of Residence (Jyumin-hyo)

Hello! I’m about to study in a University in Japan and they are asking me to submit the “Certificate of Residence (Jyumin-Hyo)”. I just want to ask if any of you know how to obtain it, where, and how long does it usually takes for me to get that certificate. Thanks in advance!😊

  2. I’m going to assume that you’re already in Japan since you cannot obtain one without having a residence here.

A Certificate of Residence is a document that acts as a proof of residence.

You can obtain this at your local municipal office or via mail (physical mail, not email).

It’ll take less than 10 mins (depending on the queue) to obtain the CoR if you go directly to the office. You should expect to receive the CoR within a few business days if applying via mail.
