We got this pack of frozen tuna poke cubes from the local Asian market and I was just wondering if it is safe to use raw?? I know it is marketed for raw use, but I am just weary of trying to use raw fish at home. It doesn’t say sushi grade on the package, although I know the sushi grade label doesn’t actually hold that much weight anyways. What do you guys think??

Poke indicates raw no? It says they’re poke cubes, so use them for poke…
They look okay for poke, not nigiri sushi. I would cut those cubes up into quarters for poke bowls.
Most commercial poke places on the mainland (outside of Hawaii) use these cubes. In fact the previously frozen poke at Safeway on the islands is also probably this stuff. It’s edible.
So you buy something labeled as poke, but you’re not sure because it’s not labeled as sushi grade, which you know means nothing? Cmon, man.
Looks fine
It’s fine
I use poke blocks like these all the time for spicy tuna. (I spent a bunch of years behind a sushi bar)
Add to blender after thawed and drained
Add
4 sliced green onions
A few shakes of togarashi/ ichimi
Tsp of toasted ses oil
Big squeeze of sriracha
Tablespoon of sweet chili sauce
Kewpie, if you’re into that (I really like spicy tuna without mayo – it’s how we served it at the higher end restaurants I worked at)
Pulse blender just a few times (we don’t want mush). Pull out any very large sinew pieces and make temaki (hand rolls) all day long.
Got a killer spicy Kani recipe to go with it if anyone is interested. I use these as the fillers for my home sushi parties since it makes it so much easier to get creative with other things and keep ppl satisfied.
Yes, just remove from package before thawing.
Yes
A bit more expensive than bigger whole pieces I would assume, but safe
Yeah. I’ve used these before, safe and tasty asf.
Sushi grade doesn’t actually hold much weight, which is probably why this package doesn’t say so. They should be fine, especially because they’ve been frozen and specifically designed for use in Poke bowls.
Yes and most commercial poke places use this stuff or even poorer quality tuna. It’s cheap food not omakase.
Roll of the dice. System flush not so bad every so often, so long as not eating too much in one go.
