Thoughts on Itinerary for 7 Nights in Japan

Going to Japan for the first time in the fall and can’t be more excited for it. Goal is to experience Japanese culture, buy a donabe to pass on to my non-existent grandchildren, eat everything, and shop around.

Would appreciate any input on this itinerary:

Tokyo

Day 0: Travel Day

Day 1: Run the Imperial Palace paths, explore Asakusa (Sensoji, Nakamise Street, Kappabashi Dougu Street), Ueno (lunch), Akihabara (Sega, otaku shops, Square Enix cafe, dinner)

Day 2: Tour Tsukiji Outer Market, explore Ginza (Uniqlo, lunch), Harujuku (shops), Shinjuku (dinner), cap out night at Shibuya (Shibuya crossing at night, shops)

Kyoto

Day 3: Travel to Kyoto, explore Ninenzaka, Sanenzaka, Kiyomizu-dera, Gion

Day 4: Explore Fushimi Inari, Uji (no day trip to Nara, I don’t want to step on deer poop when possible…)

Day 5: Explore Arashiyama, Kinkaku-ji, Nishiki Market

Osaka

Day 6: Travel to Osaka, explore Dotonbori, Shinsekai, and ride go carts around the city

Day 7: Fly to Seoul

Y’all can probably tell I’m micromanaging my time in Tokyo lol, but wanted to pack as much in as possible. Kyoto is a bit more lax since I have an extra day. Osaka is the launching pad to the next leg of the trip.

  1. You definitely have a well thought out schedule. Now as an Enix fan, I personally skipped out on the cafe. The theming as evidenced by YT videos wasn’t on par with other themed cafes but that being said if you love some thing do it. Akihabara is large and full of several floors per building of goodness. Lots of time can be lost here easily. Any thoughts on doing one less day In Kyoto and giving Osaka another? You’re itinerary can easily be condensed to two for Kyoto. But otherwise as Is works 100%

  2. That’s a fast & packed tight trip – but you’re hitting the highlights. I’d try to go very early on those intercity trains to maximise sightseeing time. Have fun!
