Do I need to cancel my side hustle while teaching in Japan?

Moving to Japan for 1 year soon, I got a low tier english instructor position for the heck of it before starting on my career journey in my own country. During my BA/MA I earned some pocket money designing and problem-solving websites on a site similar to fiverr. Can I continue this business while in Japan or would that cause problems with my visa etc?
Info:
Visa: Humanitarian visa
Planned stay: 1 year, maybe 2.

  2. You’ll need to request permission from immigration to engage in activities outside the scope of your status of residence, and as you’re not a student nor dependent you’d have to have a specific contract to show immigration. So it’s not impossible, but to keep things legal from an immigration perspective it will probably be a hassle.

Arguably web design and IT consulting are activities that are within the scope of your status of residence, but I’ve heard that only applies to domestic opportunities. By all means reach out to immigration to ask.

Don’t forget that if you’re doing work while in Japan the income from that work is considered domestically sourced so you will owe Japan taxes on it (even if the customer is outside Japan and they pay into a bank account that is also outside of Japan and you never bring that money into Japan).
