Both US citizens and got married in Japan. We now want to get a divorce. Do we just follow Japanese law and we in the clear? Or go through US law and/or family court?
Also, what about family court if no agreement is reached?
We are not here on visas but we are civilians working at a mil base.

Go through family court in Japan. Ciy hall divorces are hit-and-miss for being recognized in the US.

Amicable divorce? Do it in Guam, it will be FAR FAR FAR easier, cheaper, faster, and you will have no potential issues with your divorce being recognized in the US. [See here](https://www.guamfamilylawoffice.com/divorces/guam-7-day-residency-divorce/explanation-guam-7-day-residency-divorce).
