Edit: current conclusion: the text books used by driving schools are hard to get. You need to track down the publishing company and then somehow order. I called the driving camp I signed up for to ask what text book they use. Got pointers to the website of the publisher and will get the English version of the book on Sunday morning delivered. Will cost 17000yen 🙁 basically i want to start prepping for the kari menkyo paper test before going to camp, as a colleague who went recently said that people fail the 50 question kari menkyo test even during camp.
Hi, does anybody know where to get the English version of Driver License text books? Can only the driving school provide them? Couldn’t find anything on Amazon other than the small JAF ‘rules of the road’ book.

Have you checked the local library?
Here is a link to everything you need to know about driving and getting a license in Japan. Scroll down toward the bottom to view the “rules of the road” section. JAF also offers insurance and road service.

Looks like they can be bought here https://c-japan.tnec.jp/textbook/language.html scroll to bottom for “kounyuu houhou(購入方法)”(method of purchase).
The irony of course is that to buy them you need to understand the website so you may need a friend/colleague to help you… This page also suggests buying them at the above site https://first-drivingschools.com/gaikokugo-kyouhon/
Found this on Mercari:

Someone should turn it into a PDF… But it does seem to change from year to year, at least a little.
