This is the kicker. [Foreign Visa cards can’t be used to charge Suica/Pasmo through the mobile apps](https://atadistance.net/2022/09/19/foreign-visa-cards-blocked-for-japanese-mobile-and-online-payments/), which means that if you don’t have a Mastercard/Amex you’re kinda screwed.
🙁
Ive been to japan back in 2019 and purchased a suica. I still have it.
Can i reuse that when i go back this october?
i literally just arrived in japan oh no
Got a trip planned late August for 5 weeks, this is horrible news
I stopped using the card and use the app exclusively. Charge from my Japanese CC no problem. Also, cant believe we still have a global chip shortage.
No wonder why they were pushing Mobile Pasmo
Tourists and foreign visitors can purchase a “Welcome Suica” card without any issues.
It doesn’t require a deposit and lasts for 28 days.

Wait. I still have an old pasmo card, can I still use it when I go to Japan soon?
