Topography of hakone and gora

Hi all, First time asking a question here. I will be staying in gora today but am wondering if you can see lake ashinoko from anywhere in gora?

I heard there is a summer festival down at the prince hotel by the lake but it seems hard to trek down and back to gora in the evening so wondering if fireworks will be visible at all from gora?

Thank you in advance!

  1. No, there is a big mountain with a ropeway between Gora and the lake.

Gora is about 600m of elevation and the mountain 1400m, so you have a 800m tall mountain between Gora and the lake.

  2. You can use Google Earth to see the topography, it’s awesome. Short answer is probably not, Gora is on the other side of the mountain, I doubt you’ll be able to see any fireworks.

  3. You can’t – no.

But you can easily ride the cable car to the top, then ride the rope way to the lake. The cable car that runs up the hillside from Gora Station is connected to the ropeway building.

It’s a very steep town and I highly suggest you ride the cable car up instead of walking, unless you are staying at the bottom near the station.

  4. No but that ropeway between Gora and the lake is the best damn view of Mt. Fuji I’ve ever seen, and if I could have been high I probably would have cried.

  5. No you cannot. But you can easily catch the Tozan bus from togendai or motohakone back to Gora. I wouldn’t “trek”

The busses will have an extra service that runs after the event. I saw the summer festival at Motohakone before and the busses ran from there extra late. It was very crowded and took a while to get a bus. Waiting for the bus was like waiting for an amusement park ride but I got home in the end.
