Flying to Miyazaki next month. Will my American electronics safely charge there?

I’ll have a laptop, video camera, cell phone (to use with mobile Hotspot).

Thanks in advance!

  1. Check the details on the chargers. Every charger will have (usually in tiny writing) listed their input voltage and Hz ranges. Japan is 110v and 50/60 Hz (depends on where you are). As long as the writing says that it will work you will be fine.

The big issue may be if you have a power cord that uses a grounding plug. Japan outlets often don’t have those so you may need an adapter.

  2. Yes, modern chargers will work across different areas no issue as they’re designed for a range. As long as your plug fits, which it should unless you have a third prong which will not fit without an adapter

  3. you’ll probably want to pick up some cheap generic power adapter from amazon since stuff like your laptop will probably have the ground pin on it which probably won’t be on the port in japan (i seem to recall reading there were multiple power standards in different parts japan, but can’t remember the specifics on it, so there is an element of “your mileage may vary”).

you can minimize how many adapters you need by simply charging everything you can from the usb ports on your laptop (such as your phone).
