Why do Japanese seem to join certain words together?

So, I might be wrong because I am very new to Japanese language, and this might refer only to Romaji writing. But for example when I search for certain lyrics from Japanese songs, I look first at the Kanji and then at the Romaji and some words are joined together (e.g. “mitsumeteiruyo”) but when I put the Kanji in google translate for example it sometimes appears written in separate words like “mitsumete iru yo” etc. So, for this reason, I am unsure what is the correct Romaji writing or whether some words are really written together for some reason etc. Could someone explain in brief, please?
