What is the right way to speed up entry?

So I am a japanese returnee with poor reading skills, and I haven’t left Japan in a long time. But I recently have a need to leave for a short trip. What the hell is a japanese citizen supposed to do to speed up entry back into japan? That Japan Visit site that was necessary during covid-19 seems to still be running for expedited entry purposes, but the instructions are unclear on what order/ what needs to be done on the site for a japanese citizen returning. It feels like the japanese instructions are written for a japanese person walking a foreigner through through the system.

I guess I need a light walkthru of what a person leaving and coming back should be doing currently? Or should/can I do it the analog way and just fill out the two piece tag on exit like before and fill in the second half on entry as usual?

  1. You no longer need VJW for covid, but you can pre-register on it for digital customs check, this way you don’t have to hand-write the paper form in the airplane.

If you’re a citizen you obviously don’t need a re-entry permit or any other non-citizen stuff. Just exit/enter on your Japanese passport.

  2. before the immigration exit on the right side there will be an automated gate – to the right of that a window

sign up for the automated immigration clearance at that window then use it for reentry, in my experience it is almost always faster
