Im considering finding a job that will allow me to extend/alter my visa so I can spend the rest of my gap year before US medical school still living in Japan.
I’m considering modeling here, and I have a part time remote job based in the US currently that would help with income. I don’t really know how much income is necessary to live here comfortably (I do realize that comfort is subjective), and am looking to find advice on how to make this happen. I really don’t wanna return to the U.S. until I *have* to.
Is there a way to extend/change my visa so that I can stay into 2024 (or go home for a bit and come back until well into 2024)?

So you’re currently on a student visa? I’m assuming as an exchange student?
Do you have (or *will* you have) the necessary prerequisites for a working visa? Most notably a bachelor’s degree?

Not for modeling, no. Unless you’re an agency model at a fairly high level you’re not going to get a visa for modeling.
Nor can you get a visa for part-time work. Doubly so for part-time *remote* work.
Given that you’re planning on returning home in 2024 your best and possibly *only* option is English teaching. Very few “professional” employers (which is what gets you a visa) are going to bother hiring someone with such a short expiration date.
